# Geschichte

Niederländische Siedler gründeten Nieuw Amsterdam an der Südspitze Manhattans und errichteten einen Handelsposten der Niederländischen Westindien-Kompanie.

1664

### New York entsteht

Die Engländer eroberten die niederländische Kolonie und benannten sie zu Ehren des Herzogs von York, Bruder von König Charles II. von England, in New York um.

1776

### Die Amerikanische Revolution

New York wurde zu einem entscheidenden Schlachtfeld im Unabhängigkeitskrieg. Die Schlacht von Long Island war eines der größten Gefechte der Revolution.

1789

### Erste Hauptstadt der USA

### Die fünf Bezirke

Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, die Bronx und Staten Island schlossen sich zur City of New York zusammen und schufen die Metropole, die wir heute kennen.

### Das Empire State Building

Das Empire State Building wurde fertiggestellt. Mit seinen 443 Metern Höhe wurde es zum höchsten Gebäude der Welt — ein Symbol amerikanischen Ehrgeizes und Fortschritts.

### Kulturhauptstadt der Welt

New York etablierte sich als globales Zentrum für Kunst, Jazzmusik, Broadway-Theater und Beat-Literatur und zog Künstler aus der ganzen Welt an.

Die Terroranschläge zerstörten die Zwillingstürme des World Trade Centers. Die Stadt zeigte außergewöhnliche Widerstandskraft und Einheit beim Wiederaufbau.
